Definitly google him. He has a great website showing his art. But more important, in my opinion, are his musings. He has a lot to say, and it is all powerful, cogent, freethinking, and fucking intelligent! I think Bear is one of the coolest mofos alive today. I am PROUD to wear one of his Steal Your face belt buckles!
PS Don't be paranoid of anything! You and me and everyone else need to get back together, hang tight, hang tough, and never back down--real power to real people!!!!!

Speaking of Owsley, i checked out his web page a few months ago ... think he's living down under these days. I can't speak for his level of intellectual discourse, but one thing i did pick up from browsing around through his various writings, is a certain bitterness, resentment, and a definite self-congratulatory attitude at the cost of others. Whatever, i don't know the minutia of the man's life and to each their own as they say. But what's up with his negative attitude toward tapers?

Bear may have issues, but he goes back, and then some... so I know guys with HQ like that, you have to pay a certain amount of dues before they ease up, sometimes...

Bear may have more tapes, or he seemed to say that he did.
That would be worth the effort to wait or whatever.

I'm grateful for that recent odd 1966 reel he found that got released recently...

That had an alternate Cream Puff War, another Hey Little One, plus some real rarities like Gangster of Love, Empty Heart, Walking The Dog...

I love raw but well played 1966 garage punk guitar stuff - and this is the Grateful Dead, in 1966.

Plus, maybe there's even more unreleased 1970 FW shows Bear may have.

(see the reviews for June 1970 shows at the Fillmore West I wrote for details):

i don't know peeps..checked out this site and found this interview to be enlightening...once all the trivial talk about the "good old days" is through [page 9] Bear really gets interesting...seem to have been doing a lot of thinking and speculating about the "jigsaw puzzle" of ours!!

better check it out

You guys are being a little harsh. I mean, the guy is an icon.
I may be wrong, cause I wasn't there (born too late), but the way I understand it, without Owsley there would have been no Acid Tests. And without the Acid Tests there would have been no Grateful Dead as we knew it.
If someone has some insight from personal experience, please eleborate - I live for this stuff - the history

Bear emphatically claimed that the Grateful Dead didn't use Fender top amps - (it's a long story, best posted privately).

I just saw a clear print of the 1969 Playboy after Dark with GD, and during Mountains Of The Moon, there's a Fender top amp just like the one Bear said they didn't use.

But I'm not going to write him a year later with this post script, no need to stir all that up again...

Be grateful if he turns up more tapes someday- don't want to ruffle his feathers, while he's in a good position to potentially add anything to our archives of vintage Dead.
